A Weekly Message from Pastor James Bolin
Dear friends:
So, I attended my first on-line birthday party last Sunday. My grandson Colin turned 1 year old. Since relatives are literally all over the country, my daughter and son-in-law threw an on-line party. Here’s how it worked. At a certain time, everyone went to a designated web site streaming live pictures through a web cam. We used our telephones to enhance sound. We all got to watch him at his party, wearing a cool party hat, opening presents. We could make comments and ask questions just as if we were actually in the room. Then, no matter where we were, we all sang “Happy Birthday” together (imagine a chorus of from WY, MN, MI joining voices with those in NJ all at once to sing “Happy Birthday”!) Then, they cut the cake and Colin got blue frosting all over his face. It was so cute. So, here’s the downside – we could see the birthday cake, but we couldn’t eat any of the birthday cake. This is the world we live in now friends – ON-LINE BIRTHDAY PARTIES!
Here’s something I want you to pray about: We will be doing a 6 week small group series beginning October 6 on FAITH called “If You Want to Walk on Water – You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.” I want to challenge you to consider being a small group leader and hosting a small group in your home. Here’s what’s involved:
-Come to one of the (1 ½ hour) Leader Training Events on Sept. 26 (7 PM) or Sept. 28 (12 PM) in the church parlor. (Child care provided.)
-Decide on a day of the week and regular time for your 6 week small group.
-Invite friends, relatives, church members to come.
-Show a DVD presentation at each session.
-Lead a discussion based on the DVD presentation. The discussion questions are prepared for you.
You can do this. It is not hard. In fact, it is a lot of fun. Please pray about it.
SATURDAY, August 23
At 8 AM – you are invited to help hang brand new ceiling tiles in the church.
THIS SUNDAY, August 24, my sermon is about how God helps us when our faith seems inadequate to our situation. I’ve entitled it: Moses: “You will not go empty-handed.”
AFTER WORSHIP, you are encouraged to stay in the sanctuary for a Town Meeting on the proposed By-Laws Revisions being recommended by the Church Council. Go to the church web site to find a copy: www.bethanywaterford.org Print out a copy to bring with you. The meeting will last about ½ hour. Child care will be provided.
