Bethany Church

Missions Team

Help Bethany serve others outside our family as an expression of Christ's love.

Scripture:
Matthew 25:35
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”

Upcoming Mission Concerns
By Lottie Jespersen

Please note these dates on your calendar and support each activity as best you can.

Saturday, April 24   - Christmas In Action Work Day
Christmas In Action is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency that, in partnership with the community, repairs homes of low-income elderly and/or disabled homeowners by putting Christian values and principles in action.

Bethany volunteers will join others on the above date to help a local Waterford family. Applications are available either on the mission bulletin board or at www.ciaoaklandcounty.org.   Be sure list “Bethany” on the group line.  If you would like to support this mission effort financially, please note Christmas In Action on your envelope or in the memo line of your check.

Saturday,  May 15 Camp Lael Workday
Workers needed.  Place your name on the sign-up sheet posted on the Mission Board if you can help.   See Bob Hunt for more information.

Saturday, June 26 Open Door K-10K Julie Run
Run, walk or pledge your financial support to a participating Bethany member.  The proceeds from this event fund the ongoing outreach work of the Open Door which is struggling to meet the increased needs or their clients brought on by the present economy.   Registrations forms can be found on the Mission Board.

Fair Trade Coffee
You can “do mission” from home when you buy Fair Trade Coffee

Like oil or cotton, coffee is a commodity and world prices fluctuate wildly. Coffee farmers never know how much they'll be paid for their beans. Sometimes they don't even get enough to pay for the cost of growing them.

Fair Trade certification provides farmers a fair price for their beans with a guaranteed minimum, which means they can invest in their crops, their communities, and their future.

Fair Trade also creates some of the best coffee in the world, because farmers can afford to follow time-honored traditions that produce the finest beans.
Look for the above logo at Sam’s and other places that sell coffee.  You can request Fair Trade coffee at Starbucks or purchase it online from Green Mountain Coffee

Haiti Earthquake Relief and Recovery

The devastation took just moments; the recovery will take years. Your help is urgently needed to enable survivors of this tragedy to fend off hunger and disease and to rebuild their lives. Through One Great Hour of Sharing, American Baptists began responding immediately. Over $65,000 has been sent so far for relief efforts underway in Port-au-Prince and surrounding area.

Please give generously to these relief efforts. Every dollar will go 100% to disaster relief and recovery. You may submit your contribution to Bethany Baptist Church and note “One Great Hour of Sharing — Haiti Relief” in the lower left corner. Please visit www.internationalministries.org to check for updates regarding American Baptist Ministries and efforts.

Update: Bethany has collected over $1600.00 and have sent it to the relief efforts in Haiti. Thank you for your generous donations. You are still welcome to donate to the relief effort through Bethany Church.
